How do I Adopt-A-Stop?

Call 560-4197 ext. 21260.

Who can adopt DATA bus stops?

Individuals, service organizations, businesses, property managers, and families.

How long will I be responsible for the stop?

You can adopt a bus stop for one year or the length of the academic year for school groups.

Which stops are available?

Bus stops are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you don’t have a particular stop in mind, we can help you find a stop that needs adoption in your community.

What should I do about graffiti?

You can report graffiti to Durham One Call at 560-1200 or call the Durham Police Department at 560-4427. Volunteers should not attempt to remove graffiti.

What do I do if I see suspicious behavior at my stop?

Call 911.

How will I be recognized?

DATA will provide a placard at your stop with the name of the individual, organization or business.

What do I need to do to maintain my stop?

  • Remove trash around the shelter and bus stop area.
  • Remove all advertisements and flyers from the bus stop area.
  • Submit monthly reports detailing work performed at bus stop.
  • Report vandalism, damage or special maintenance needs to the DATA.
  • Report any supicious behavior at or around the stop to Durham Police.

What materials will I be provided?

Litter grabbers, gloves, trash bags, and safety vests.

How do I receive my free bus passes?

Bus passes will be mailed out each month after you submit your work log.

Can I adopt more than one stop?

Yes, you may adopt more than one bus stop.

Do I get more bus tickets if I adopt more than one stop?

No, each coordinator will receive only one set of bus passes per month.
